Aamra

In 1964, Pushpawati Khaitan, a pioneering homemaker, founded Nari Shiksha Kendra (NSK) with a simple yet powerful vision to create livelihoods for women in her community.
What began with hand-ground spices and traditional pickles continues much the same way even today. More than 60 years later, the ingredients remain pure, and the techniques are still rooted in time-honoured, handcrafted processes.
Over the years, NSK has grown steadily. Today, its products reach customers across the country, available through over 200 stores via partnerships with established artisanal brands and online through it's own label. The range has evolved too, spanning both traditional favourites and more contemporary offerings.
In 2017, Aamra was launched as a natural extension of this journey-bringing these products directly to a wider audience through its own identity. Today, Aamra is available across India through its website and online marketplaces.
The name Aamra refers to the wild hog plum- similar to a small mango, sold by street vendors outside schools in Kolkata, cut fresh and sprinkled with bold, tangy spices. It evokes memories of tangy, bright, balanced flavours.
In Bengali, Aamra also means we”
And at its heart, that’s what Aamra stands for-
